Jean HORNELL Obituary

JEAN MARIE HORNELL Marie Hornell, aged 92, passed away on May 4, 2023. She was the devoted wife of 66 years to James Hornell (2021); loving mother of Shelley (Stuart), Laurie (Pat), and Peggy (Don); and proud grandmother of Andrew (Amanda), Jonathan (Elyse), Katie, Victoria (Brock), Abby, and Beth (Malcolm). Marie trained at North Bay Normal School and began her teaching career in Milton where she met and married her best friend. She gave years of dedicated service to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, United Church Women, United Way, Centenary Hospital, and Toronto General Hospital. Marie sat on the board of the Scarborough Health Network and volunteered in both provincial and federal politics. Marie enjoyed watching curling, golf and was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan! Her butter tarts, shortbread cookies, apple pie and gravy were famous. So too was her love of paddling on Georgian Bay with Jim in the red canoe. Our thanks to Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital or Georgian Bay Land Trust.

one stands out is her shining face smiling up at me from the red canoe. It was a perfect blue Georgian Bay day. Then she noticed a wee water lily, plucked it and chewed the end to see what it tasted like...fearless, fun and excited about life in all dimensions.I will miss her very much. Heartfelt condolences to all the family. Stephanie
