JEAN MOFFETT Obituary

(nee Waddington) August 12,1923 - April 14, 2025 Jean was born in Ottawa to Elsie (Rigby) and Stanley. She spent her childhood years in North Bay with younger siblings, Roy (1929-2025) and Gail (1935-90). Jean met her husband, Joe Moffett (1924-91), while working in Toronto as a secretary at CNR. Their two girls, Mary Ellen (m. Stephen) and Jane (m. Finn) (1954-2020) were raised in Leaside. Jean became a HAM radio operator in her later years using the call letters VE3WAD. She was a long-time volunteer at the Ontario Science Centre, where she helped to develop the HAM station VE3OSC and conversed with astronauts on the International Space Station. She was awarded the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers. Jean will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Moffett (Emily Jin) and Emily Stephen, Brenna Tracy (John), and Corbett Smith (Cavell); and great-grandchildren, James, Grace, Nolan, Hannah, Rachel, Liam and Aiden. Particularly dear to her were Mary and Randy MacDonald and their family.

I have very fond memories of Jean from our radio club meetings when I lived in Toronto (she always brought the cookies!). A kind and caring person, easy to talk with, and a wonderful ambassador for our radio hobby. My condolences to Jean's family.

It was a pleasure to know Jean. Enjoyed working together at the Science Centre, and our shared East York neighbourhood history. She was a treasure and I will miss her deeply.
