JEANNE REPP Obituary

Jeanne Repp was born in May, 1946, in New Westminster, BC. The eldest of six siblings, Jeanne loved to hike, ski, swim, and travel. She cherished time with her grandchildren, Mady, Emmett, Toby, and Felix. Jeanne will be deeply missed by her children, Risa (Sam) and Ben Sargent; her brothers, Mike (Romanie) and Allan Repp; her sister, Laurie (John) Rogers; her partner, Gerry Smith; and her extended family and friends. Jeanne graduated from the nursing program at Vancouver's St. Paul's hospital in 1967, attaining a BSc from UBC in 1974 and a Master's from the University of Calgary in 2001. Jeanne worked for most of her life in public health, holding positions in Tsawwassen, BC, Medicine Hat, Banff, and Calgary, AB. Jeanne took a gap year in 1971 to volunteer with Canadian Crossroads International in Ghana. During the 1980s, she was a volunteer for Unisphere Canada. Following retirement in 2018, she volunteered at a community hospital near Huaraz, Peru, and in recent years, she was an active volunteer with the Alberta NDP. Jeanne loved the landscapes of the Canadian Rockies, moving to Banff in 2005 to work at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. She lived from then on in the Banff/Canmore area, hiking, ski touring, and building lifelong friendships. Jeanne passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025. Special thanks to Dr. Lloyd Mack and the Foothills Medical Centre nursing staff, who provided her with kindness and dignity in her final weeks. I was deeply sorry to hear a few days ago from a friend that Jeanne had passed away. My husband and I live in Colliers Ridge and I met Jeanne during Covid when both of us volunteered at an outdoor resident painting project. We bonded immediately over missing our children and grandchildren and during the Covid epidemic enjoyed frequent walks and talks together. Jeannes fun company and enthusiasm for family, life and travel helped get me through a very difficult lonely time . After Covid ,we both resumed our busy lives ,including travel, lots of family visits and recreating in Canmore in different group activities ,so we had to work harder to find time to have an occasional walk together.
I am so sorry that this past year , having to deal with health issues for both myself and husband, followed by travel that Jeanne and I completely lost touch .
I wanted to express our deepest sympathy to Jeannes family, grandchildren and to Gerry her partner. As you all know, Jeanne was a strong ,enthusiastic ,family and friend oriented person ,who made a positive difference in the life of every person she met.

With deepest sympathy
Mary Ellen and John Frederick

This is a hard note to write. It is such a shock to know that Jeanne has passed. I first met Jeanne in 2003 when I worked at Womens Health at Foothills Hospital. Her office was next to mine. Jeanne has been an inspiration since the day we met. Her knowledge and caring, her wisdom and sense of fun. We didn't see each other often after she retired and I moved to the West Coast. But we would see each other a few times a year and exchange emails often. I was always so inspired by Jeanne. Her sense of adventure. Her many travels. Her vigorous activities from hiking to skiing to swimming to biking. She was unstoppable and remarkable. My heartfelt wishes for Risa, Ben and grandchildren. And for Gerry. Jeanne lived a remarkable life in her own unique way. I will miss her dearly...

Jeanne and I met late in life, as climbing buddies at Elevation Place in Canmore. We immediately hit it off and she became a cherished friend even after I moved away. I will always remember her distinctive laugh and her individualistic outlook. As well as her apricot jam, oatmeal cookies and cheese toasts. She was one of a kind and my hero in many ways.

Pat Petley (my wife) and I spent hours hiking with her in the Canmore area since she was one of our favorite hiking buddies. We had great times together with lots of discussions, solving the world's problems. We have already started to miss her dearly, and talk about her often with our other hikers. She will be remembered by all of us. A very remarkable women, indeed.
