JENNY WITTRUP Obituary
JENNY ANNE WITTRUP (née Buchmann) 1933 - 2022 It is with great sorrow and sadness that our family announces the passing of Jenny on December 19, 2022 from the medical complications of pneumonia. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday with her family and her great-granddaughters, Ella and Hanna. Jenny was born in Kirkland Lake and raised in Schumacher, Ontario by her parents, Danish immigrants Karl and Astrid Buchmann. She met her husband, Torben, in Timmins and eventually moved to Toronto to raise their family on Lyall Avenue in the Beaches. She returned to school and followed a career in graphic design as a graphic artist. Jenny was an active senior. She spent her time reading, working out and socializing at the Lakeshore Mayfair club, walking the boardwalk and relaxing at her beloved 'Sommerhus' in Prince Edward County. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Torben; her brothers, Peter and David; and her daughter, Karen. Jenny was the proud and loving great-grandmother of Ella and Hanna; the grandmother of Scott (Sarah), Tomas (Nadya), Brian (Reanna), Lucy and Laura (Alex) von Buttlar. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Susan) of Calgary and Evan (Sue) of Toronto; and her sister, Karol Jones. Jenny will be remembered for her intelligence, philanthropy, community involvement and activism. She was well read and well travelled. She also had an eye for eclectic colourful artwork. It was at this time of year that Jenny and Torben would host their annual Danish themed Christmas party for family and friends. We all have many fond memories of their hospitality, food and companionship served up at those parties. We want to thank and acknowledge the care and kindness provided to Jenny by the staff at the Scarborough Retirement Residence. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2023, following interment at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Jenny was a long time supporter of the SOS Children's Villages Canada. If you would like to make a donation, please support this charity. Jenny will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family.
