Jerome was the reason I wore sunglasses when I raced. I sat next to him on the elite bus on the way to the start of the Montreal Marathon in 1982, and we both dropped out at the race hotel and rode the elevator back to our rooms together. It was a very hot day. For a new marathon runner it was the thrill of a lifetime. RIP Jerome.

My sincerest condolences to Jerome“s family. I am always grateful for the time he took to help me plan and train for my first half marathon. He was so humble, but created a perfect plan....and, when it came time to execute, who was there at the halfway mark and finish line?...Jerome. A quiet but impactful legend. I am eternally grateful for the knowledge he shared with this extremely amateur runner!

Fond memories of those beers together in the Two Paddle Pub, Honolulu in '78 when you did a stop over returning from Japan. You never received the recognition you deserved, your national record stood for 43 years.

I first met Jerome running the Pig Palace track at the CNE in the 1970s. Although I was nothing more than a trip hazard for the workouts he was doing, he would engage me in conversation and encourage me. Jerome taught me track protocol and would acknowledge my efforts, this meant everything to me that a world class athlete, Fukuoka, and Boston champion would be so patient. 50+ years later these memories are with me. My condolences to his family, RIP Jerome

I knew him before he became Jerome Drayton and a world class athlete. During our many training runs together we usually called him "Pete" which he never seemed to mind. In looking back, I have many memories of conversations mostly while trying to keep up to him during our runs. Canada and the world has lost an outstanding athlete.
My condolences to his family and friends

I think it very sad that Jerome was barely known by most Canadians. In the U.K. running stars are known by all, whether runners or not, but most of my non-running friends have never heard of him. Of course, he was a little reclusive, but his successes should have put him up there with the other greats anyway. Had his talents been in hockey, he would have been almost deified! R.I.P. Jerome.

Peter and I were friends during our elementary school years at John English and in our early years at Mimico High School. He was on our track team and was distance running long before it became popular. Truly a unique person who became a legendary Canadian athlete. Condolences to his family and friends .

I knew his as Peter, and knew him as Jerome, and knew him as a legend and a great athlete. He reached the top.
