Joan BOYD Obituary
Joan Marie Boyd May 3, 1932 - December 26, 2023 Joan passed away in Burlington, Ontario, on December 26, 2023. She was 91 years of age. She is survived by her children, Ann Stoner (husband, Bill Wodhams), Robert Stoner (wife, Molly Bartlett) and Kathryn Stoner (husband, Paul Oyer); as well as her grandchildren, Isaac Stoner (wife, Tracy Pogal-Sussman), Lillian Stoner (husband, Ludovic Meyer), Rosemary Stoner, Patrick Wodhams, Scott Wodhams, Adam Weiss and Abigail Weiss. She also had one great-grandchild, Beckham Stoner (the son of Isaac and Tracy); and two step-grandchildren, David and Lucy Oyer. From 1957 to 1983, she was married to Norman Stoner, whom she met while working as a secretary at a downtown law firm (Norman was a law student). Joan grew up in The Beaches district of Toronto alongside six other children, including her twin sister, Betty. In later life, she would describe the Toronto of her childhood as a 'sleepy English town.' She lived in the downtown area of Toronto for the majority of her later years, where she enjoyed a close community of friends and frequented her favourite restaurant, the 'Hot House.' Joan was proud of the city's multiculturalism, believing that Canada was a 'wonderful country' that was meant to be shared. Joan loved music. A lifelong member of the Anglican Church of Canada, she sang in Anglican Church Choir for over sixty years. She also sang with community theatre groups and in many Gilbert & Sullivan productions. Joan was an alto. She regretted never being a soloist. Joan will be remembered for her sharp wit, which remained with her even in her final days. As a mother, she raised her children to value politeness and education. As an individual, she believed above all else in decency and compassion. She was and remains an emblem of those values and a role model for all of us. Joan loved her family and was well loved in return. We will miss her dearly. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff members at Hampton Terrace Care Centre for their exceptional dedication and service.
