Joan Marguerite CARNEY

Joan CARNEY Obituary

JOAN MARGUERITE CARNEY (nee Holland) Joan died peacefully in her sleep on November 22, 2010, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was 73. Born February 7, 1937 in Harvey Station, New Brunswick, Joan was the beloved wife of Clarence Carney for 53 years and the daughter of William and Virginia Holland. Loving mother of four children, Jim (Cindy) of Vancouver, Thomas of Toronto, Jeff (Carolyn) of Boston and her dear Paige of Regina. Cherished grandmother of Anna, John, Rory, Christopher and Chad Carney. Joan grew up in Winnipeg with her older brothers Gordon Holland and Wilson Holland who took very good care of their sister. She was always hard working and very social. She married Clarence in 1957 and moved to Red Deer, Alberta, followed by Edmonton and Regina, Saskatchewan. She will be missed by a close circle of friends and relatives. Joan had ambitious goals for her life and her family. She was always learning new skills and showing her endless talents as a banker, a bridge player, a great friend and a mother. She encouraged her children to aim high and work hard, resulting in her three boys graduating from the University of Manitoba (Jim) and Queen's University (Thomas and Jeff). Paige, her daughter, settled in Regina and Joan always held her close to her heart. Clancy and Joan retired to Harvey Station, New Brunswick where they built a beautiful home and enjoyed the extended family and charm of the Maritimes. In 1999, Joan and Clancy moved to Toronto to be closer to their son Jeff and family. Joan spent her last years of life at the Rekai Centre in Toronto where the team took exceptional care of her and Clancy was a remarkable companion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) or 1-800616-8816. A celebration of Joan's life will be held in Winnipeg on Sat. Dec. 4th starting at 10 am at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Rev. Teresa Moysey will be officiating.
