July 18, 1931 - May 21, 2025 Joan died peacefully on a spring morning, at her home in the Dunfield Retirement Residence with family by her side, on her own terms, after a long and active life lived to the fullest. Predeceased by her half-brother, Howard Twilley, Joan was the loving wife and widow of the Honourable George D. Finlayson QC, and proud mother of Margot (Gord), Blair (Jan), and Sheelah (Andy). She adored her grandsons, Riley and Fraser, Cameron and Geordie, Ben (Jacquie) and Josh. Her first great-grandson, Magnus Joan, was the delight of her life in her final year with us. Born and raised in Toronto, Joan was always elegant and classy, and known for her artistic flair. She loved her city and knew it better than many taxi drivers. She volunteered at Campbell House, and at the Hospital for Sick Kids for 40 years. Joan was an active patron of the arts, attending concerts, opera, and musical theatre. She sang joyfully in a Broadway Show Tunes choir until just a couple of years ago. Joan excelled at sports from an early age and played tennis until her mid 80s with a lively group of women friends at the Granite Club, the Badminton and Racquet Club, and at her beloved cottage at Long Point, on Balsam Lake, where the family enjoyed 50 years of fun, friendship and community. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Mary Finlayson, her devoted nieces and nephews across Canada, extended family, and wide circle of dear friends who appreciated her positive attitude, her kindness and grace, and her wonderful smile. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Dunfield Retirement Residence for their excellent and loving care of our mother, right to the end. A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at the Badminton and Racquet Club, on Tuesday, June 24th, from 5 to 7 p.m. By Joan's request, please wear colour to remember her bright spirit. Donations may be made in Joan's name to A Place Called Home, Lindsay, Ontario
