Joan HOGWOOD Obituary

JOAN MARY HOGWOOD (1927 - 2023) The 'unsinkable' Joan Mary Hogwood, passed on April 12, 2023 at the age of 95, with her daughters, Catherine and Caroline, by her side. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 67 years, Ronald Edwin. Joan leaves behind her adoring daughters, Catherine Brady (Jim) and Caroline Hogwood (Barry Sutton). She was a loving "Nannan" to her two grandchildren, Ben Brady (Lauren MacDonald) and Hilary Sutton; and "Gigi" to her three great-grandchildren, Jack, Max and George Brady. Mum and Dad emigrated to Canada from England in 1954 on a wing and a prayer and never looked back. As much as our father was the quintessential gentleman, our Mum was the consummate gentlewoman - with a kind word and a smile for everyone she met. Joan was born before her time, and had timing been different, there is no doubt she would have been an editor of some literary publication as reading was her most beloved activity. Mum was also an avid golfer, very proud of her hole in one! She was a gourmet cook, and enjoyed being a wonderful mom; always ready with a cup of tea after school. She and Dad travelled the world, including many memorable golf vacations with friends. Mum was also a feminist. She gave us her full support for whatever path we chose in life. She was an equal partner in her own marriage; volunteered her time to many causes; and would never cringe from a debate on any issue - traits she passed on to us. We'd like to thank the 'Wyldewood ladies' for their friendship with our Mum over the last 45 years; Dr. Breen for her kind care of Mum and the entire team at the Kensington who were always so kind to and supportive of Mum. We hope Mum and Dad are sharing a glass of red wine together and dancing like it was 1949 - a great love story reunited. "A life well lived - a mum well loved." Private cremation entrusted to Smith's Funeral Homes. In honour of our Mum's English background, a Ladies High Tea will be held at a later date. If you would like to remember our Mum, please consider a donation to one of her two favourite charities: Haltonwomensplace.com or salvationarmy.ca www.smithsfh.com
