JOAN GERTRUDE HYNDMAN (Atkinson, nee Ditner) April 12, 1936 - January 26, 2021 Surrounded by her loving family, Joan went peacefully to be with her Lord on January 26, 2021, in her 85th year. Treasured wife of Peter Hyndman, beloved and devoted mother of Howard Atkinson (Deb); and Heather Cressman (Jay); and stepmother of Kim Cabeldu (Jeff); Bryce Hyndman (Deb); Kerri Valiquette (Mark); and Brent Hyndman (Caroline). She leaves behind many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her mom, Margaret Burchett (Ditner, nee Gordon) (2009), dad Ignatius 'Bud' Ditner (1955) and stepdad Frank Burchett (1998). Joan was born and raised in Kitchener. A kind, intelligent and introspective child, she was a true introvert, preferring the company of a few close confidantes. Her shy exterior belied a fierce and determined spirit that would serve her well in the years to come. Joan's natural organizational skills were put to good use during many household moves that took her to multiple cities... Kitchener to Oshawa, Toronto, London, Montreal, Windsor... before life brought her full circle - back to K-W for her final years. During that time, she juggled resettling two children into new schools, making houses into homes and orienting herself within each new city, all while working multiple jobs and pursuing a university degree. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario and went on to complete her working career at a prestigious law firm. 1993 brought both her retirement, and wedding to Peter, and was followed by many fantastic trips abroad... and of course, more household moves! Joan had many challenges in her life, but through it all, her inner strength, resolve, determination and faith brought her through. She was a strong-willed person who knew her own mind right up to the end. She was a loving, supportive and irreplaceable wife and mom who will be sorely missed. Special thanks to Dr. C. Danescu for his years' long involvement in her care, Dr. C. Harlick, Courtney (palliative nurse) and Dr. M. Taylor whose kindness and compassion made the final months a little more bearable for her. Honorariums can be made in her name to The
Canadian Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life will be held later, when we can safely gather once more.
