Joan LICO Obituary

JOAN ELIZABETH LICO (née BUCCILLI) March 6, 1934 - July 11, 2023 Joan was born in Toronto and was the only child of Frances and John Buccilli. She was a lifelong Torontonian, first living in Little Italy and then spending her teenage and young adult years living in North Toronto. In the early 1960s, when her husband suggested they move to Scarborough, she resisted, but fell in love with a house and agreed to make the move to the burbs. Joan was very involved with her church, having managed Sunday school for a number of years at Holy Spirit Church. She also enjoyed gardening and, every year, could not wait for the warmer weather so she could enjoy working in the garden and spending time there while reading. Besides her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband, C. James Lico (1986) and son, Paul (2019). She is survived by her daughter, Catherine, son, Steve and her beloved dog, Mia. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) on Thursday, July 20, starting at 10:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank the amazing staff and residents of McCowan Retirement Residence where Joan lived for five years and to the wonderful staff at Shepherd Village where she spent her final weeks. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society or the Toronto Humane Society. Cathy and Steve, thinking of you and offering our sympathies on the passing of your wonderful Mother, Joan. She was a delightful and sweet person to us all. Many good memories of family get-togethers. Am sure there is a happy reunion going on in heaven. Will say a prayer and light a candle in her memory as we are not able to be at the service. Love to you both from Patti, Cathy and Roy.

Dear Steve and Cathy,
I read your Mom's notice of death in the Saturday Globe and Mail and wanted to extend my sincere sympathy to both of you.
I knew your mother through your father Jim, an associate at Canada Life from 1971 to 1986. It was really through the Canada Life conferences that I came to know and admire Joan; especially a particular conference in Hawaii that Joan and I spent some time together going through some shops. She was so cheerful with such beautiful laughter and we enjoyed being carefree and having fun. Though so many years have passed every so often memories of both your Mom and Dad come to my mind. Despite Jim being a real character he was a kind hearted man and always supported me when I was starting out in the Life Insurance business. It was disappointing not to be there in 1986 but I heard the news as I was leaving for a trip to hike the West Coast Trail. Both your parents were memorable to me personally and thought of still with affection.
Enough said for now and please accept my sincere sympathy. Trusting that you both keeping well. Brian
