Joan SIMONE Obituary

JOAN CLARE SIMONE, CM, DSL (née HOARE) 1940 - 2022 Joan was born in Leeds, England on September 22, 1940, to James and Lena Hoare. Joan was called to Jesus on September 26, 2022. 'Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received - only what you have given: a full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice, and courage.' St. Francis of Assisi Joan leaves many to celebrate and appreciate her earthly presence. Those who adore her include Dr. Andrew A. Simone, her beloved husband of 62 years and their 14 children and their families: James and Sabrina Simone (Jonathan, Alexandra); Roy and Mary Simone (Liam, Brendan, Niamh); Eva-Marie and Gordon Moffat (Michael and Andria (Chance, Dillan, Axel), Taylor, Maxwell, Morgan, Carter, Chloe); Paulette and Christopher McGuckin (Alexandra, Aidan, Sonya, Owen); Monica and Daniel Bolland (Nate, Cas, Rachel, Reese); Christina and Michael Belvedere (Parry, Michael, Elizabeth); Christopher and Lisa Simone (Maclayne, Cameron and Mikayla, Jonas, Niko); Matthew and Daniela Simone (Olivia, Seamus); Sean Simone, Mary Simone , Margaret Simone (Jameson); Emily and Brendan Bailey- Simone (Kajetan, Sid); Andrew and Nadia Simone (Taya, Lucas); and San Chu. Her memory will also be cherished by Joan's siblings, Marie and Len Deflece, and Len and Cathy Hoare and their families. Joan also leaves her caring sisters-in-law, Margaret Anderson, Jennifer Barry, Sally Francis and their families and Andrew's sisters who have passed before her, Yvonne Baines and Antoinette Simone. Throughout the years Joan, along with Andrew, created a welcoming home that has included 23 foster children, the Chu family, and many others who have, and will, share in their love, sense of humour, and great appreciation of joyful times. Joan was guided by her faith and God's grace. Her many accomplishments within her 82 years would fill many pages and many more souls. Recently when Joan was asked about her hobbies, she answered, 'I collect food for the poor.' And that is what she and Andrew did. The focus and mission of their lives is to feed Mary's children. Not only the physically hungry but also the spiritually hungry. Through their dedication to helping God's children and their strong commitment to the teachings of Jesus, they gather and distribute food, supplies, love, and hope. Joan and Andrew have devoted their lives to Andrew's medical practice and caring for the poor. With the grace of God, they worked with the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa), co- founded Canadian Food for Children, Amazing Grace Canada and support Silent Children. This work brings them joy. Joan, along with Andrew, appreciate the many volunteers and organizers who dedicate their physical and spiritual energy to continue the work. CFFC has inspired many people and saved countless lives - those in need of nutrition along with those in need of love. Joan holds and humbly accepted the esteemed Order of Canada, the Doctor of Sacred Letters Honuris Causa degree from St. Michael's College, and the Papal Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. Joan's family thanks all the medical staff of St Joseph's Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, Shery, Laarni, Josephine, et al, the support provided by LHIN and especially Dr. Sandy Tecimer for their compassion and care of Joan (and her family) in her final days. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and loving support to the family - your kindness and care is greatly appreciated. In memory of Joan, please be kind and 'smile at each other for a smile is the beginning of love' (Mother Teresa). Your prayers, energy, and/or donations to a charity you admire is also appreciated. For one small act will make a difference - another thing Joan (and Andrew) model. Celebrations of Joan's life: Memorial Mass: Friday, September 30, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. - Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1C6. Condolences to the Simone Family and all of the great volunteers of Canadian Food for Children! Besides her tremendous pro-life witness in these challenging times, Joan was like a second mother to so many through sharing her love, heart, home, words of wisdom, joy, friendship and so much more. The example of her happy and fruitful marriage, the great love between Dr. and Mrs. Simone and their lives of loving sacrificial service of God and neighbour is most edifying. Thank you bringing souls to Jesus! Dear Joan of Toronto, humble servant of Christ especially in the poorest of the poor, intercede for us!

May you hear Lord say: "Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.´ We the Missionaries of the Poor experienced the Simone family's dedication to the poor. May Joan's soul rest with God
