Joan was one of the great ladies of Manhattan. She
enjoyed the New York life with her love, Oscar.
Smart and sassy.... wicked since of humor. She will
be missed. I hope she is back together with Oscar.

Joan and I were competative friends while students in the 40s-50s at Port Credit High School. She lived the life of her dreams.

Almost forgot - we talked about the devastating disease of Alzheimer's and dementia and the effect it had on those close to the affected person. In her case, Oscar. In mine, my Mother and others close to me.

I was a fan during her Sun days. She was one of the reasons I wanted to work there - I eventually did. As a teenage male I learned a lot about love, romance and the proper way to relate to/interact with women. I learned many other lessons as Joan wrote about a wide range of topics. We connected and she would laugh as I quoted back to her bits and pieces of her columns from memory. Especially her farewell piece. She moved back to Toronto. We had planned to get together but life, Covid, etc got in the way. I did see her a few times and we talked - I was picking up a 90+ friend and taking her to a live Saturday afternoon Golden Oldies Rock and Roll show by Danny Marks at a bar. Joan wanted to come but had doggie duty. Very much missed. I will try to make the service.
