Joanne was my daughter's teacher from grade 2 to grade 6 at Dewson St PS. She was phenomenal. At their grade 6 graduation, Joanne gave a speech and described a short snippet of what each child was doing at the beginning of a typical day, who they were talking to, who was bouncing around, who was pulling a prank. The snippets perfectly described each child's personality. She loved her students and that love transmitted to her students. The friendships they built in that class continue now 12 years later.
I am very sorry to learn that she has passed. If it's any consolation to her family she leaves a beautiful legacy of friendship among her students and of appreciation among parents.

She liked parties, introduced me to the plant Nicotiana and growing seedlings in a cold frame. I carry forward her recipe for white cake and white fluffy icing. She entrusted me to take care of of her son Tristan, as a child, a most joyful experience. My condolences to all.

It really shocked me hearing this. As it did to many people, because of how happy and joyful Mme Jenkins always was. Mme Jenkins was one of the nicest, most caring and devoted people I have ever met in my life. She has made such an impact in my childhood. Mme Jenkins hasn’t just fought me how to do well in school/be a good student, she has taught me how to be kind, transparent, and how to be a responsible person. I am sharing my deep condolences to Mme Jenkins’s family.
