Joanne JENKINS Obituary

JOANNE MARGARET JENKINS It is difficult to encapsulate the rare nature of our cherished Joanne Margaret Jenkins. The vibrancy of her warmth, kindness, wisdom and pure generosity left a profound impression on those fortunate enough to belong in her extensive community of loved ones. With a childhood spent travelling the world, Joanne was afforded a unique perspective at a very young age, creating an unparalleled level of compassion and love for people, animals, and the environment. An exceptional artist, adored teacher, devoted friend, and profoundly loving mother, Joanne will be missed immensely. It is with great sadness that we announce her passing on January 23, 2021, though she remains with us through the many lives she changed as a revered teacher and friend. She is remembered by her children Tristan and Frida Jenkins-Roe, their father Brent Roe, her brothers Nicolas and Christopher Jenkins and his wife Ann, her partner Ted Snell, and countless treasured friends and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, please support girls' education through the Malala Fund or a charity that celebrates her love of animals and nature.

Joanne was my daughter's teacher from grade 2 to grade 6 at Dewson St PS. She was phenomenal. At their grade 6 graduation, Joanne gave a speech and described a short snippet of what each child was doing at the beginning of a typical day, who they were talking to, who was bouncing around, who was pulling a prank. The snippets perfectly described each child's personality. She loved her students and that love transmitted to her students. The friendships they built in that class continue now 12 years later.

I am very sorry to learn that she has passed. If it's any consolation to her family she leaves a beautiful legacy of friendship among her students and of appreciation among parents.

She liked parties, introduced me to the plant Nicotiana and growing seedlings in a cold frame. I carry forward her recipe for white cake and white fluffy icing. She entrusted me to take care of of her son Tristan, as a child, a most joyful experience. My condolences to all.

It really shocked me hearing this. As it did to many people, because of how happy and joyful Mme Jenkins always was. Mme Jenkins was one of the nicest, most caring and devoted people I have ever met in my life. She has made such an impact in my childhood. Mme Jenkins hasn’t just fought me how to do well in school/be a good student, she has taught me how to be kind, transparent, and how to be a responsible person. I am sharing my deep condolences to Mme Jenkins’s family.
