JOCELYN BRODIE Obituary

If you want to know Jocelyn, spend time in a beautiful garden on a hot summer day, wander in an art gallery or museum expanding your mind, or curl up in a cozy spot with a great book and steeped cup of tea. Surround yourself with beauty, kindness and loved ones and you will start to get a sense of her. On December 18, 2024, our darling Jocelyn Ann Brodie passed away at the age of 68. She was predeceased by her loving mom and dad, Flora (Jane) and Harry Brodie. Left behind to grieve are the loves of her life, husband, Bill Danis; and daughter, Lila (Ash Conn); along with her sisters, Stephanie and Alison; dearest "sister by choice," Jane Worton; cousin, Penny Finneron; in-laws Nan Vaillant, Susan Karn (Murray) and Moe Danis (Elise Kraft van Ermel); and many loving nieces and nephews. After completing an Art History Degree at Trinity College, University of Toronto, Jocelyn studied at Sotheby's Institute of Art (London) and subsequently obtained her MBA at Western University. Jocelyn worked on Bay Street before pursuing opportunities in the not-for-profit sector, including leadership positions at the CBC Radio, Ontario Centres of Excellence and Bridgepoint Hospital. In each case, her strategic problem-solving and creativity shone brightly. She was a lifelong volunteer, driven by her strong sense of responsibility and concern for issues that were important to her, including board positions with The Textile Museum of Canada, Hope and Me, The Kidney Foundation of Canada and Wildlife Preservation Canada. Jocelyn's natural elegance and charm drew everyone she met to her, and in turn she offered her unflagging courage, resilience and positivity. She was also a loving friend to many cats over the years. Jocelyn was a beautiful soul whose love of all things natural and beautiful will be terribly missed. The family wishes to thank the Multi-Organ Transplant team at Toronto General Hospital for years of support for Jocelyn and the dedicated team on 17-B at Princess Margaret Hospital that helped Jocelyn in recent months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jocelyn's honour to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or Wildlife Preservation Canada. A private family service has been held. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.

Dear Bill, Lila and Stephanie:
So many wonderful memories of Jocelyn. From MBA student days to TD Bank, neighbours on Wheeler Avenue...Please let me know about her Celebration of Life. I am trying to arrange for Ivey Alumni Network Toronto to organize a screening of "Class of Promise", the NFB/CBC documentary which featured the women in our MBA class and focused on Jocelyn´s story. Love to you all, Julie Gircys

Although I have not seen Jocelyn for many years, we worked together at Ontario Centres of Excellence and she was one of the most kindest colleagues I have worked with. I came across her passing and my condolences to the family.

I knew Jocelyn through her volunteering her time as a board member with the charity I work with. Jocelyn was always a pleasure to be around, and she was so supportive of the work we are doing. Her enthusiasm lit up board meetings where she provided insights and ideas that advanced our conservation programs significantly. Jocelyn´s concern and joy for the smaller often overlooked yet important creatures around us, like bees and butterflies and songbirds, was infectious and continuously helped motivate the rest of us. Her passing has deeply affected those of us that spent time with her. We are grateful that we had that time with Jocelyn. Our condolences are with her family and we share in the grief from the passing of such a lovely and kind soul.

Rare to see an obit capture the essence of a person in a small space but this comes pretty close. We are incredibly thankful for our 20+ years as Jocelyn's neighbour, enjoying the depth of her personality and the warmth of her ever-present smile. We'll miss you Jocelyn but we're sure they're smiling in Heaven.

Jocelyn was my boss at OCE and was the best kind of boss you could ask for. She took the heat from above (and there was heat), transforming it to an achievable plan, and she led by example, teaching me so much about both strategic comms and how to bring out the best in people. I am so sorry for your loss - my most heartfelt condolences to all her family and friends.

My dear friend Jocelyn...you were a bright and shining star. Your laughter was contagious and the amount of love you had to share with everyone was enormous. I can´t imagine a world without you. You just made the world a better place.

I am so sad to read about the death of Jocelyn, such a smart kind beautiful person. We were at grad school together and I recall her intelligence, creativity, laughter and grace. Jocelyn demonstrated to me what grit and grace could make possible while under tremendous pressure. Thank you Jocelyn. You will be missed.
