BORNSTEIN, Dr. Joel Shelley
After a long battle with cancer passed away peacefully on December 29, 2011 at age 62 in Chicago. Beloved son of Adelyne and Harvey, brothers (predeceased) Melvin, and Bruce. A caring veterinarian, talented musician, brilliant scholar he leaves behind a legacy of friends and family and will be sadly missed. In lieu of Shiva we ask if you would kindly make a donation to the charity of your choice in appreciation of the family.

Joel and I were friends when he lived in Vancouver in the Nineties. He came into my thoughts recently so I looked him up on-line, imagining him still happily living and working in Chicago . . .I'm so saddened to learn of his passing. Joel was a kind, generous man whose intellectual curiousity and open-heartedness touched my life.

I'm sitting on Doc Bornstein's memorial bench at the Horner Dog Park. My last name is Ornstein (without the B). I googled to see who Joel was, and got to this page. Anyhow, peace be with y'all. May his memory be a blessing.
