John Bartrem Obituary

JOHN BURNHAM BARTREM Passed away peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2021 in Oakville, Ontario having just celebrated his 90th birthday on July 27. Survived by his loving wife of more than 63 years, Bernice Bartrem, and sons Peter (Donna Wright), Blair (Karen Steele), Richard (Joan Walker) and daughter Jo-Anne (Mark Walker) and his grandchildren Sequoya (Ben), Keisha (Natalie), Mitch (Jen), Caroline, Kyra, Quinlan (Jess), Jared and great-grandchildren Bexley, and Fletcher. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews in Toronto, Barrie and Trinidad. John was predeceased by his brother Robert (Shirley) in 2000. Born in Montreal in 1931, John lived a full and productive life with a long career in both advertising and sales working in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. He was, for decades, a well-respected fixture of the broadcast radio communities in Ontario and Quebec. A lifelong baseball fan, John was first a fan and supporter of the Montreal Expos but placed his efforts behind the Toronto Blue Jays when he moved to Toronto in 1993. Many a road was travelled each spring to Palm Beach and Dunedin, Florida to catch Grapefruit League spring training. A private family service will be held in Toronto in September. For those who wish, donations may be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada. Online condolences may be made through Oakview Funeral Home at www.oakviewfuneral.ca.

I hd the great good fortune of working for John, working with John, and having John work with me. All were exceptional experiences. We usually agreed but sometimes not. Regardless, he was a man of great integrity and he was honest and direct to a fault. He will be missed.

My condolences to all of the Bartrems especially to Bernice. I worked with John in the late 80's and early 90's. He was an exceptional manager, family man and person. I had much respect for him as did others around him. He will be missed.

John was my Uncle - he was married to my dear Aunt Bernice, my Mother’s. youngest sister. I will always remember John for his kindness to my Mother & Father whenever they visited Canada & also to me & my siblings. When we travelled from Trinidad to Oakville, he showed great interest in what I was doing & always enquired about my job & life. He was a family man & loved his wife & children so very much. Handsome & he had such a lovely voice which his sons have inherited!!
He will be very missed.
Rest In Peace Uncle John.
Your niece, Candy
