On April 4, 2025, John passed away peacefully in Toronto at the age of 101, with family at his side. Born in Cologne, Germany in 1924 to Hedley and Ellen Bennett, John was predeceased by his brothers Hedley, Paul, and Nelson. A proud veteran of both the British Royal Navy and the Governor General's Horse Guards, John spent over 25 years as a test engineer at Pratt & Whitney Canada, contributing to the development of the PT6 engine. He and his beloved wife of 64 years, Doreen Isabelle (née Sutton), raised their four children in Boucherville, Quebec, where John was a dedicated volunteer with Cadets, Scouts, and the Greenfield Park and Longueuil Legions. He is survived by his children, John (Heather), Thomas, Ellen (Daniel), and Kathleen (Michael); grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Jill, Austin, Ariane, Sarah, Michael, Joel, Paul, and Jacqueline; great-grandchildren, June and Leon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
