John BIRD Obituary

JOHN BIRD March 1, 1939 - June 1, 2022 Grandfather, husband, father, brother, uncle, neighbour, golf buddy, bowler, amateur chef, card player. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, John Bird, who passed away peacefully with us at his side at LACGH in Napanee on June 1, 2022. John is predeceased by his first wife, Isobel (nee Anderson, of Port Charlotte, Islay); and his brother, Dennis. Loving and caring father to Ian (Polina) of Vienna, Austria; and Fiona Anderson (Colin) of Dunblane, Scotland. Grandfather to Matthew, Savva, Louise and Sophia, whom he loved madly, each in their unique way. John is survived by his former wife, Joan House of Prince George, BC; his brother, Stuart; and sister, Valerie. We would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff on Kidd 9 at the Kingston General Hospital and at Bayshore TCU (Windsor Retirement Home) for their wonderful care of Dad in his final weeks. You made our Dad feel special. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the James Reid Funeral Home. Donations in Dad's honour can be made to the Truth, Duty and Valour Fund at RMC through https://www.rmcalumni.ca/en/donate-today/truth-duty-valour-fund/.

Hi Fiona,
First I would like to say a few important words in Memory of your father John BIRD,

Thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
*************************

then with your permission I change the subject to an inquiry that takes us back then 1993 in Japan.
It all began at Queen's University 1992. A group of students travelled to Japan as ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers.
This is where the journey began.

I am reaching out to you for assistance in my search to reconnect with a particular group of three women from Queen's University, as I am writing an article about the values of that kind of project English Second language Teachers.
Specifically those who were in Japan from the 1992 - 1993 timeframe. In Japan they were living in Kitakyushu.
Relatively near the place you stayed at Omuta-shi, Fukuoka, what makes me think you knew them as Ex Queen's Alumni, it was common to reunite there especially in a place like Japan as you always feel like a foreigner there.
Although the details are fuzzy, here is what I remember:
One of the ESL students from Queen's University was named Joanna (surname long forgotten). She was Canadian born, Ashkenazi Jewish, blue eyes, blond/straight hair. The other may have the name Justine, but I can't remember the name of the third.
As a former student at Queen's in those years, I hope you can take a minute to assist in this search for Joanna and her cohorts.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Zalman

John was a good friend of my late Aunt and Uncle, Bill and Marie Hart and became a good friend of mine through our seniors bowling league. He was always the teacher and taught me how to improve my bowling. He spoke often of how proud he was of his family and showed me pictures. John will be greatly missed by our league and by me personally.

Dear Ian, Rob let me know about the passing of your dear dad. I only met John a couple of times when we talked about Vienna, my hometown. May he rest in peace. Ian, I am sending you a big hug.
