(1931 – 2026) Devoted son of the late, beloved John Reginald Bond and Dorothy Sarah Bond. Brother to his dear, late sister, Joan Sutherland. John died on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the age of 94. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Betty Ruth Bond, to whom he was married for 70 remarkable years. He is mourned also by his devoted daughters and their spouses: Julia Schonborn (Al), Heather Share (Brian), Linda Haley (Robert) and Jennifer Bond; and by his grandchildren, Joanna and David Schonborn (Adrienne), Jacob and Rachel Share, and Olivia and Andrew Haley. John, a longtime Canada Life executive, graduated from Humberside Collegiate as head boy, and from the University of Toronto (Victoria College). He participated successfully in various sports. He was very proud of his family which was a great joy to him. Family gatherings in Toronto and at the cottage were the highlights of his life. John and Betty Ruth were good friends and neighbours, maintaining relationships from their earliest days. In retirement, they enjoyed travelling with longtime pals. John was known to enjoy a glass of good scotch and will be especially remembered for his wonderfully dry sense of humour and friendly manner. We are extremely grateful to the caring staff of Chartwell Scarlett Heights, Mississauga Hospital, the nurses at the REACT transfusion clinic at Credit Valley Hospital, and Dixie Road Medical Associates. Special thanks to Dr. Kubba, Dr. Kwan and Dr. Parmar. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto.
