JOHN CRONIN Obituary
March 24, 1927 – May 17, 2025 With much love and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of John Cronin on May 17, 2025, in his 98th year. John lived a rich and fulfilling life and considered himself a lucky man - for his family, friends, faith, and professional life. Beloved husband of Dorothy Cronin, loving father to Philip (Alicia), Cathy (John Puffer), Bob (Gayle), Sue Mahony and Tom (Kathryn). Predeceased by his brother, Bill, and son-in-law, John Mahony. Proud grandfather to Lisa Macdonald (Scott), David Cronin (Erin), Mark Mahony, Claire Mahony, Scott, Andrew, and Michael Cronin. Born in Woodstock, Ontario, John spent most of his life in London. He graduated from what is now the Ivey Business School and enjoyed a distinguished career at Clarkson Gordon (now Ernst & Young), retiring as Managing Partner of the London office. John was deeply involved in the London community. He believed in community service and was on the Boards of organizations within the Catholic Diocese, the London School Board, King's College, Brescia College, the YMCA, and St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation amongst others. He was honoured with the Knighthood of the Order of St. Sebastian from the Roman Catholic Church, for his lay contributions to the community. John was an avid golfer, bridge player and gardener. He was a keen fisherman, enjoying adventurous trips with friends. He cherished 17 annual canoe trips in Algonquin Park with his children-journeys that continued until he was 80. Above all, John was a devoted family man. He believed a loving family was life's greatest gift. He loved family gatherings, especially Christmas, remembered for its joy, laughter, street hockey games, and children camping out in the basement. A special thank you to the team at Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket. Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Rd E, Thornhill, ON. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by refreshments. The family will hold a private interment. A reception in John's honour will be held in London, Ontario, at a date to be announced. Donations made in memory of John may be made to King's University College (at Western University) or St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation (London).
