John DUNBAR Obituary

JOHN GARDENER DUNBAR SR. With sadness the family of John Dunbar announces his passing on November 13, 2021 in his 90th year. The family is comforted in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife of 45 years June, who predeceased John in 2011. John was born in Toronto, to William and Agnes Dunbar of Dunbarton, ON. John's grandfather, William Dunbar Sr., came to Canada from Scotland in 1831, and founded Dunbarton Village. By all accounts he was a leader in all aspects of the community. John and his late brother William 'Bill' Dunbar graduated from Mechanical Engineering at the University Of Toronto, where their father was a professor in the Mechanical Engineering department. John had a succesful career in Toronto. He and June retired to the Kingston area to be closer to family; where they enjoyed many years at the cottage on Lower Beverley Lake, winters on Long Boat Key (Florida), and family dinners at their 200 acre farm on the Rideau Canal. John will be forever missed by his son John Gardener Dunbar Jr. John was an amazing uncle and will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews Steven Cherry (Tina Fasano), Cristy Robb (Patrick), John Hoare, and Judy Hemlow; and many great-nieces and nephews including Brianna, Devon and Owen Robb and Taylor June Cherry. John will also be missed by his brother-in-law Richard Cherry. John and June's best friends in life were Marjorie and Earl Barnholder. John was predeceased by sisters-in-law Lillian Cherry and Julia Hoare and brothers-in-law Donald Lucas and Harold Hoare. Special thanks to Lou Vadala, housekeepers and caregivers Mary Lou, Doug and Glenda Webb, and the staff at James Reid Funeral Home. John's family asks that you love your family as much as he did and 'pay-it-forward' with an act of kindness in honour of him.

I remember Mr.Dunbar from his time working at my father's engineering firm on Mobile Dr in Toronto that has since morphed into MBII. He was always very pleasant and polite with me - I was a kid when I last saw him but he is completely recognizable from the photograph here in fact he still has the same haircut. Hopefully his family will remember that he had a good long life and that it was well lived. That is all that any of us can hope for.
