John DUPRE Obituary

DR. JOHN DUPRE Passed peacefully, in his 90th year, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at his home in Erin. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Gillian; his sister, Gillian Baker; and children, Matthew (Lyrinda), Louisa (Pedro) and Luke. Loved grandfather of Samantha (Mikhail), Sebastian, Cecilia and Miebet. Loved great-grandfather of Remi and Zoya. While the scientific community bids farewell to an internationally renowned and respected clinician and researcher, he will be remembered by the diabetes community around the world as a gentleman and a world class scientist. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of John's life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Dr. Dupre from his time at McGill when I was in my residency - he was a gentleman and a scholar and had a very ready smile and enthusiasm. My sympathies are with you in your loss.

Gillian, Matthew, Louisa, Luke and family, We were so saddened to read of Dr. Dupre's passing. It does not seem so long ago that he and Gillian were at the rink cheering on Luke at his hockey games. Condolences to Gillian and the family. John was my first attending physician mentor when I began my internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital on the Endocrinology Service. He was an inspiring mentor, wise thinker and wonderful human being. We met again at numerous meetings and in London at UWO as colleagues. We hope your fond memories, family and friends will help through this time.
Many in our Division of Endocrinology at McGill share the loss with you.
