Peacefully at Emmanual House Hospice on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in his 73rd year. Loving husband of Jane (Jan) and father of John (Deanna). Brother of Joan and her husband, Bruce Murray, Mary and her husband, Dave Walker, and David and his wife, Shirley. He was a loving uncle to seven nieces and nephews and great-uncle to seven nieces and nephews. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, John spent his working life as a Senior Legal Counsel for various firms in Toronto. John loved to cook and host gourmet meals for his family and friends, often getting inspiration for the menu from one of his most recent vacation destinations. He regularly volunteered his time to a variety of organizations, including Wesley Urban Ministries, where he served on the Board of Directors for a number of years, Canadian Council of Churches and Royal Botanical Gardens, where he nurtured his love of gardening. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Dr., Stoney Creek on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. A private family interment will precede the Funeral Service at Fifty United Church on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Wesley Urban Ministries or the United Church Mission & Service Fund would be appreciated.
