John FREEMAN Obituary

JOHN FREEMANOn Friday, November 2, 2018, we lost our husband, father, grandfather and brother John Freeman after a noble battle with cancer, at age 75. John will be lovingly missed by his wife of 52 years, Hilary, his children Matt (Amy), Cory-Ann (David), and by his adoring grandchildren. He will also be tenderly remembered by his brother Gary (Rhonda), and by sisters-in-law Abby Erlichman (Steve) and Lanny Scholes. John lived a life of devotion - to his family, his work and the causes he was passionate about. His passing leaves a void for those who loved and admired him. A native of Toronto, John attended Brown University and began a long career in law in 1965, beginning with his LLB from the University of Toronto Law School and adding a Masters of Constitutional Law from Osgoode Hall in the latter years of his career. John served on the board of numerous organizations, including the West Park Healthcare Centre for which he was both president of the Board and the Foundation. He also started the Brown University Club of Toronto and at one point chaired the alumni interview program for all of Canada, Mexico, and South America. Through his extensive volunteer work he affected many. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, on Tuesday, November 6th at Benjamin's Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Ave W, North York. Donations in John's name can be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.

Dear Hilary, Cory and Matt,

I just learned today, September 3, 2019, of John's passing and am in shock and tremendously saddened with the news.

As you may know John was my corporate lawyer for decades beginning when our offices were in the same building on Bond Street. I always considered him a good friend and trusted confidante.

For many years we would celebrate our birthdays (same age and same month) by going out for lunch and having Mile High Ice Cream Pie, a favourite of John's. This was during the early years when we were less concerned with dietary restrictions!

I will truly miss John and send you my deepest condolences.
