John GIBSON Obituary

JOHN DUNCAN GIBSON John Duncan Gibson passed away on July 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan (née Fischer); his treasured sons, Luke (Gillian Roberts) and Scott; his beloved grandchildren, Teddy, Isla and Bennett; his siblings, Dick (Maggie) and Diane Travers (Brian, deceased); and his warm extended family, Brian Fischer (Katie), Paul Fischer (Maureen) and Maria LaFrance (Robert). Beyond his family, Duncan loved his tremendous circle of friends and was a valued member of the Toronto Cricket Club, Summit Golf & Country Club, and most importantly, John's Island Club in beautiful Vero Beach, Florida. From humble beginnings in the Ottawa Valley, Duncan graduated from Carleton University and earned an MBA at the University of Western Ontario, before embarking on a stellar 25-year career at TD Bank that took him to Toronto, New York and Vancouver, and saw him ultimately rising to the rank of Vice Chairman. Duncan was honoured to serve on the Board of West Fraser Timber for over 20 years. Dunc was not a "car guy"; he was a "'67 Corvette guy." The thunderous sound of his Vettes on the streets of North Toronto will be dearly missed. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club (parking will be limited). In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation to the Odette Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in Duncan's memory.

Susan
This is Michael Allan from the old TD days in NY. Some time has passed and I only discovered today of Duncan´s passing over a year ago now. My heartfelt sympathies to you, the boys and all the extended family. We had a great time together in the 80´s and very much enjoyed our dinner in La Jolla on one of your western swings in 2011. Duncan was a good friend and a wonderful boss with a flowing sense of humor. Those Canadian Society dinner dances were great. I´ll always remember Duncan´s reference to those days in NY when he said it was such a great time with our group of bankers and that we would always look back on it and smile
I´m so sorry.
My very best wishes
Mike Allan

I met Duncan at the Cricket Club and realized we were both retired from banks. We had many conversations primarily in the sauna after " strenuous " workouts. We talked markets, bank stocks and family and never drawing any conclusions except the love for our families. Condolences to the Gibson family

My late husband, Bob Nevin, and Duncan spent many Fridays golfing together at Summit and then we all met up in Vero Beach to share some laughs at Bobby's Restaurant. Duncan was a lovely man and will be greatly missed by many in Vero Beach. The picture is from Bob's birthday one year in Bobby's. Much sympathy to Sue and family.

Such great memories of the Carleton University days. I was a `mature´ student in the Commerce program where I met Dunc and Jim Harrison. Dunc and Jimmy hated living in residence so my wife Gwen and I and baby Karen moved to a townhouse with enough
room for Dunc and Jimmy to board with us. Great fun! And yes there was a 67 Corvette parked outside.

We kept in touch with Dunc here in Vancouver and would meet up for dinner when he flew out for West Fraser Timber board meetings.

He never lost the charm of the guy from the Ottawa Valley.

Our heartfelt condolences to Susan and family.

I met Duncan at the Dean's reception on the back lawn of the biz school at UWO in the fall of '72 . I enjoyed his company in class and in Study Hall ( aka The Ceeps) . We kept in touch through the years and I marvelled at his meteoric rise through the ranks at the Bank. He was a wonderful friend and is gone far too soon.
Condolences Susan and the family.

RIP Dunkie!
