John will be lovingly remembered by family and friends who admired his passion for living life to the fullest, his high standards for personal and corporate performance, and his keen interest in and support of educational, athletic, cultural and charitable endeavors. They will cherish their memories of John as big, strong, larger than life, but also caring, kind, compassionate, generous, sensitive and gentle. Among the activities he especially loved were mountaineering and shooting. John's life was filled with adventures, awards and achievements in academ- ics, sports and business. Born in Vancouver on August 29, 1940, John attended Athlone School, Shawnigan Lake School and Neuchatel Junior College. In 1963 he toured the United Kingdom with the Canadian Rugby Team and was also president of the Hawks Club at Cambridge. In 1964 he was awarded the MacKenzie King Scholarship in International Law and in the same year set a course record, Silver Goblets, coxless pairs, at Royal Henley Regatta, Henley on Thames, England, an accomplish- ment he repeated, Finalist Silver Goblets, in 1976 at the age of 36. World Junior Rowing Championships in Montreal (mem- ber, Organizing Committee). He was Chef de Mission of the Canadian Summer Games Team to the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympics. For the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics, John was a member of the Executive, Nomination, Sponsorship and Licensing Committees; in his role as Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, he took the lead in staging the first-ever financially successful Winter Olympic Games. In 1965 he began his business career in the investment industry with Greenshields in Montreal, becoming Manager of the Investment Management and Research Department in 1970. In 1972 he founded The Resource Service Group Ltd. whose diverse operations included Okanagan Helicopters. He was also founder and Chairman of Canada 3000 Airlines Limited. At his death he was Chairman of Resource Funding Ltd. Among the many organizations that have benefited from his moral and financial support are Rowing Canada, Rugby Canada, University of British Columbia and the Calgary Counselling Centre. He was an avid supporter of Charter for Business The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. In recent years, John took a leadership role and great delight in the funding, development and building of extensive new facilities at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island. At the funeral service recently held for his mother, John especially empathized with this quotation from the Homily: 'Your life must be dedicated to the things that are truly important to you'. He urged his children to remember this. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park, (3602 8th Street SW), on Monday, March 3, 2003, at 2:00 P.M.
