Our deepest sympathy to the McCaig family. As a former employee with 31-1/2 years with the McCaig's, it was an honour and pleasure to have known Bud, and to have seen the fairness and generosity that he extended to one and all. He will be greatly missed.

We have lost a great leader in the Calgary community, but I have absolute faith that Bud's legacy will continue on. Thanks to Bud and to his family for the sacrifices and for the never-ending involvement to make our city a better place for all. Everytime I met Bud I felt better for it with his great smile and wise words, and I can only hope that in his memory I will turn around and help and support my neighbors, my community and my business colleagues half as much as he did. Bud, your memory and your legacy will live on in us all who were fortunate enough to meet you.

I first fell under Bud's spell when he visited Jeff and me at school in Lausanne, Switzerland early in the last century. He had a magical way of making everyone around him, regardless of their station in life, feel like they were important to him which was a rare and beautiful gift. Bud was a true gentleman who responded to triumph and tragedy with equal grace and strength and humility never letting personal adversity suppress his indomitable spirit … or his golf. Our hearts go out to Bud’s family and friends. Bud has left this a better place and we are all the poorer for his loss.

Dear Bud,
I have great difficulty to say everything I think should be said about you, my dear friend.I am simply too choked up about not seeing you around anymore--we saw so much of each other on the numerous occasions where our business careers (and our private lives) facilitated shaking hands and sharing smiles after sometimes lengthy meetings. You were always patient and and gave others your time and your respect.Your kindness towards me will never be forgotten. You will always remain in my memory as a generous and principled human being and a wonderful friend.Thank you for that Bud !
From the heart,
Gus
