(NOVEMBER 26, 1921 MARCH 5, 2010) JOHN HAMILTON MCCULLOUGH It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John McCullough of Kingston, Ontario on March 5, 2010 at Kingston General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn, and by his son, John McCullough of Agora Hills, California. Predeceased by his sisters, Audrey Gibson, Eileen Giles and Marguerete Vearncombe, and by his daughter, Karen McCullough. He leaves seven grandchildren, Deana Slater, Blair Slater and John Slater, of Toronto, and Keelyn McCullough, Devin McCullough, Riley McCullough and Gillian McCullough of Agora Hills, California. He is also greatly missed by his daughter -in-law, Janeen Klarenbach, and son-in-law, Craig Slater. John served during World War II in England with RAF No. 1 Squadron and in Holland and Germany in the 2nd Tactical Air Force with RCAF No. 439 Squadron, retiring as a Flight Lieutenant. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto with a BASc in Metallurgical Engineering (Class of '50). He was a dedicated 34 year employee of Alcan Aluminum; Past President of Kiwanis Silver K Club; member of Queen's Masonic Lodge No. 578, A.F. & A.M.; member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite 32 degree, Valley of Kingston; Past President of the Kingston District Shrine Club; member of the Canadian Fighter Pilots Association; member of the Typhoon Pilots Association, member of No. 416 (AVM Godfrey) Wing, Air Force Association of Canada; member of the Royal Canadian Legion, No. 631. John was born and raised in the Beach district of Toronto; he left Malvern Collegiate Institute in 1941 to join the RCAF. Following the war, he and Evelyn lived in Toronto, Arvida, Quebec, Kingston, Montreal and Oswego, New York (for 25 years), before retiring to Kingston in 1983. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 8 from 6 to 8 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) Queen's Lodge 578, the Kingston Shrine Club will hold a Masonic memorial service Monday, March 8 at 7:00pm. All brethren are welcome. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home at 11 am on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Inter ment to follow at Cataraqui Cemeter y. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kingston Food Bank and to the Shriners Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
