John MCROBERTS Obituary

JOHN MCKEE MCROBERTS 1933 - 2021 Passed peacefully, in his 88th year, on April 7th at Sunnybrook Hospital with his wife, Nadia at his side. Born and raised in Toronto, the middle of five siblings, Margaret, Billy and Bobby (all predeceased), survived by Betty. He led a full life of love and family. He attended Danforth Tech CI, where he represented them and the Toronto Red Devils in track (440 Hurdles). His abilities led him to University of Houston on a Track Scholarship, where he met and married his first wife, Hollamon (Wink) Rodgers, the mother of his three children, Lynne, Linda and John Scott. He was an amazing father, and step father to Kathy, Susan, and Helen. His grandchildren were his joy. John was an avid member of the Granite Club. He was the neighbour that all the neighbours knew and loved. He passed on his love of competition, and birds to us all. He will forever be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to Adam House www.adamhouse.org/donations in John's memory are greatly appreciated.

I just read about John’s passing in the Granite Club newsletter. Please accept my deepest condolences. I knew John from the gym, where I saw him regularly. He was such a lovely gentleman. Always asked about my children and was always engaging in an interesting conversation. Such a wonderful man.

To Nadia and family,

I have known John since 2007, when I moved onto the street. I remember meeting him - he warmly introduced himself to me and proudly showed me photos of his family. Every time I saw him, he always had a sunny greeting, and when I had my kids in tow, he always had a kind word to say to them.

I will miss seeing him sitting on the porch, enjoying the weather and engaging with the neighbors and sharing a smile.

Sending you our best wishes,
Kar-Wei, Peter, Grace and Gavin

Dad was all about teachable moments. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge and liked to share his little tidbits. It was amazing, as I never saw him reading but he remembered everything. With reflection I realize how much he has passed on and we are all the better for it.
