John MOFFAT

Passed away peacefully, at The Village at University Gates, Waterloo, on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor Margaret (nee Hawkins) Moffat (2018). Cherished and loving father of Marcia Smith, Lisa Cruise (husband, Scott Cruise) and Paul Moffat (wife, Marbella Herrera); grandfather of Stephanie Fedy (husband, Patrick Fedy), Jordan Tamcsu, Jacob Tamcsu, Paul Moffat Herrera (junior), Brisa Moffat Herrera, Alexandra Moffat and Samantha Moffat; and great-grandfather of Elijyah, Fynnigan, Leightyn, Mayble, Isobylle, and Attycus Fedy. Predeceased by his mother, Gladys Jane (nee Laycox) Moffat; and father, Charles Blain. John was a Chemistry professor at the University of Waterloo, retired after 37 years, and was granted the title Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He won several awards, authored books and over 300 articles. He was respected by all for his good nature and love of teaching and mentoring. His career allowed him to present all over the world, often travelling with Eleanor and their children. Special thanks to the staff at University Gates, Dr. M. Lee-Poy and to Dr. N. Bodkin for their continued care and support. A memorial visitation and reception will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 2 - 4 p.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
