John MOLLENHAUER Obituary
John (Jack) Douglas Mollenhauer June 15, 1931 - November 11, 2014
'Stop me if I've told you this...' After a brief illness our family is sad to announce the passing of the MOST wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend of all time. Loving husband of 60 years to Anne (Arnot); Son of AA 'Molly' & Eva Mollenhauer. Brother of Gord (Gail) Mollenhauer. Father of sons David and Ian, daughters Mully (Cathy) and Janet, spouses Andrew, Nancy and Shawn, 'Papa Jack' to Kevin (Chantell), Sheila (Jordan), Reid, Arran, Arden, Anna, Meredith and Jack, great-grandchildren Alyssa, Andrew and Grayson all mourn his death.
With the family by his side and in a style all his own, Jack exited the world on the most remembered day of the year. Jack was born in Toronto, one of the few 'Torontonians,' attended Regal Road Public School, UTS (class of 49), U of T (Eng/Bus class of 54). A successful businessman, he joined the Mollenhauer family construction business upon graduation in 1954, where he worked his entire career.
Jack was one of the most compassionate and honest people one could ever know. He inspired us all to be better people. He made adventure part of his life whether it was summer vacationing at the YMCA Geneva Park, skiing with the family at Whistler, or pursuing his passions including napping, gardening, photography, fixing the damn water pump at the farm, internet wizard, flying float planes, scuba diving, fishing, sailing, travel, 'OH JACK' skiing, golfing (except putting), tennis, curling, 'LET' Mollenhauer squash player, conversation orchestrator, book club member, hiker, music lover, duct-tape collector, heli-skiing enthusiast, and fire-side cocktail hour host.
Staying social was a big part of our dad's life. Here's a rundown of his involvement in different clubs and organizations. The Bridge Club, Caledon Ski Club, PAG Group, Mississauga Golf & Country Club (former president), Camps Kitchikewana and Kilcoo, The Old Farts Club, The Badminton & Racquet Club, The Culture Club, The Oakville Club, Caughnawaga Fishing & Hunting Club, Deeks Fraternity, Probus Club, U of T Later Life Learning, Prayer Breakfast Club, Kingsway Lambton Church Men's Club, Provincial and National Prayer Breakfast and The Toronto Construction Association.
Thank you to the excellent care of the Doctors and Nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto. In the spirit of Jack's generosity, please make a donation of your choice to one of the following suggestions: Jack and Anne Mollenhauer Charitable Foundation through The Toronto Community Foundation or Kingsway Lambton United Church. Friends may call at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service at Kingsway-Lambton United Church, 85 The Kingsway, on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
