John NOTT Obituary

JOHN HERBERT NOTT It is with sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of John Herbert Nott, beloved husband, father, and friend to so many. Born on Garnet Ave. in Toronto and survived by his loving wife Veerla and son Jordan (Rachel), the family takes solace in the wonderful friends and family members who offered such steadfast support to John in his last years. A talented watercolour painter and graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design (1967), John enjoyed a rewarding and exciting career as an interior designer and member of the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario, proudly completing many building projects in Ontario and beyond. Devoted lifelong fan of the Toronto Argonauts, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Buffalo Bills, John never missed a game even when the deck was stacked against them. The pleasure he derived from sports was perhaps only exceeded by the years spent at Windsong, the family cottage on Wood Lake in Muskoka which brought him so much happiness. A Queen's Scout Award winner in the 1950s, he tried to live every day by the mottos "Be Prepared" and "Do A Good Turn Daily." The family wishes to thank the skilled and compassionate staff of the City of Toronto's Seven Oaks Long-Term Care Home who brought John such comfort in the last months of his life. Instead of a service, John asked that no matter where in the world they may be, friends and family raise a generously-poured Mount Gay rum and coke to the many years they enjoyed together. An altar will be built in John's honour in Tarerio, Michoacán, Mexico on el Día de Muertos this November. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Ontario College of Art and Design (https://ocadu.ca) or the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (https://downiewenjack.ca/) which aims to build cultural understanding and create a path to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

My condolences to your family, John. I still have fond memories of our time together as junior forest rangers in Northern Ontario near Manitouwadge in the summer of 1960, especially our wild rides through the bush on the Bombardier J-5!
