John RIDOUT Obituary
JOHN RICHARD RIDOUT
October 14, 1926 - January 23, 2016
John passed away peacefully in North Vancouver after a brief illness. Born in Bournemouth, England, he was a loving husband to Jean Ridout for 56 years; father of Sue (Bruce Mohun), Nick (Tracey Eyben) and Lisa (Ben McPeek). Grandpa of Claire and Hannah Mohun; Tyler and Shawn Ridout; Benjamin, Nicholas and Liam McPeek; Lindsay and Justin Eyben. A dashing British gentleman, John was always inquisitive, loved to tinker and could fix anything electronic. By the age of 17, he was maintaining transmitters for the BBC during WWII, then served as a British Navy radio mechanic from 1945-48. Hired by Canadian General Electric to teach radar use in England and Germany from 1953-56, he and his new wife then immigrated to Ontario where he continued to work for CGE for more than 30 years. After retiring to BC, he loved tracking the boat and plane traffic in Burrard Inlet with his ever-handy binoculars and ship-to-shore radio. He also loved Jean's gourmet cooking, his beer served at room temperature and an impeccably-arranged spread of newspapers and magazines on the coffee table. Never selfish, John donated his body to UBC. Donations, in his memory, may be made to his favourite charity, Doctors Without Borders. Dad, you will be deeply missed, but your strong sense of humour, need for order and thirst for knowledge are alive and well in your offspring.
We love you.
