I was fortunate to have been taught by such an intellectual. Such a passionate professor whose lectures were truly inspirational. My condolences to his family.

I consider myself fortunate to have been one of his students at York U. He was a great instructor, and I particularly enjoyed all the personal anecdotes he used to pepper throughout his classes; for ex. that he named his eldest son after Thomas Jefferson, one of his heroes. Rest in peace, Professor Ridpath. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I almost didn't hear about John's passingas I lost contact with him after a short but important period of time in my life. He was my first swimming coach at U of T along with Larry Freeman in 1961. His ex-wife Virginia Grant was on the !956 Melbourne Olympic team with my sister Sara. He had a significant and I will say good influence on me as an athlete and a person. I remember him well and give my condolences to all those who knew and loved him.

John was my first professor at York (literally first course, first day) in 1970. He hired me as a teaching assistant in 1977, and I was privileged to be able to attend his final lecture in 2000/2001(?) on his retirement. He was a fine man, a great teacher and a good friend. Sincere condolences to his family.
