John ROGERS Obituary

JOHN PATRICK ROGERS February 14, 1928 - April 28, 2023 We are deeply saddened to announce the death of John in his 96th year. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family. John was one of five children born to Dr. James Terence and Alice Quinlan Kavanagh Rogers (predeceased). He was also predeceased by his sister Sheila and brother Terry, and sister-in-law Nancy. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years Maureen (Loftus), brothers Tom (Twink) and Bob, sister-in-law Sharon, son Tom and daughter KC, and four grandchildren, Madeleine, Cynthia, Tristan and Isabelle. He was cheerleader for eight nieces and nephews and their families. He graduated from McGill University with a BA in 1949 and in 1950 he went to work at Molson's Brewery in Montreal as a payroll clerk and rose to become President and CEO of The Molson Companies Ltd. He retired in 1992 after forty-two years of service. Other business affiliations included: Director of Canada Malting Company, Chairman of Diversey Corporation, Director, the Traffic Injury Research Foundation. A lifelong athlete, John had a love of sport that began at St. Leo's Academy, Westmount Quebec, where he was on the football, hockey and boxing teams, carried through his years at McGill as a proud member of the Redmen football and boxing teams and in later years, with his running club training for marathons, camping, skiing, cycling and golfing. John always made time to give back to the community. He was Director and Aquatics Instructor at the YMCA in Montreal; Instructor Trainer of NAUI, President of Aquadyne Skin and Scuba Diving Club; Director and Chair, Financial Development YMCA, Toronto. Director and Patron, Outward Bound Canada. Associate, Underseas Medical Society. Governor, McGill University Foundation. Life Governor of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (UK), Co-founder of the 'Bunker Boys' YMCA Old Timer Fitness Fanatics, and Member of the Islington Golf Club. In 1993 John was awarded the Governor General's Commemorative Medal in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada. Despite his achievements John was a very humble man, a loyal friend who possessed a subtle dry wit which endeared him to family and friends and whose legacy of service to family and community will endure for years to come. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2305 Bloor St. W., on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Please consider a donation to the Sheila Margaret Rogers Memorial Fund for Research in Diabetes, c/o The McGill University Health Centre Foundation: muhcf.akaraisin.com/ui/giveinmemory/p/JohnPatrickRogers or by phone MUHC 514-843-1543 Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

My heartfelt condolences to Maureen, KC and all the Rogers family and friends of dear John Rogers on his passing. John was a cherished Friend, Mentor, Leader in the truest sense of each of theses words. He was a man of vision, of skills, knowledge, experience, abilities, energy and competence - who lived by conviction, humour, dedication to all he loved. He strived continuously to be a better version of himself, and brought out the best in others. His was a life of good humour, who rose to challenges - personal, physical, professional and with marathon zeal. May his memory and all of his good deeds and works, and his love for his beloved family, friends and the many communities in which he moved, and which he served always be a blessing in our hearts. May his achievements serve to inspire our own good works. Floralove Katz, Ottawa

I first met John when I was driving a special events van for Molson in the summer of 1985. He was running in the Masters Games and it was made very clear to me by my colleagues in Events and Toronto Sales that it was a big deal that we had a Senior officer of the Molson Companies actually participating. It didn't take me long to find out why he was so well regarded by the older (everyone was at that time!) Molson employees. He was genuine, warm hearted and easy to talk to. Not unusual amongst Molson people but he still stood out. I have had the good fortune to have crossed paths with him and his family over the years. A true gentleman and a life well lived. My heartfelt condolences go out to Maureen, KC and the rest of his family.

Paul and I extend sincere condolences to Maureen and family on your loss.
I had the good fortune of working at Molson Brewery on Fleet St. when John (or JPR as so many of we Molson employees so fondly called him) was President. He was an amazing leader and respected by so many. He had the ability to motivate and to bring out the best in people. Many of us felt, under his direction, that we were part of one big caring family! Working there was an experience that I am so grateful to have had and I thank you JPR. May you rest in eternal peace.
Mary Lou and Paul Raino (or "ML" as he used to call me).
