JOHN MITCHELL RUMBLE August 27, 1933 - December 5, 2023 John Mitchell Rumble, of Schomberg Ontario, died peacefully at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. John was pre-deceased by his parents George and Grace (Mitchell) and his twin sister Mary Elizabeth (Bette). He will be forever missed by his wife of 53 years, Judy, his children and their spouses, Betsy and Patrick (Gay), and Michael and Laura (Trak), his six grandchildren Grace, Aine and Brendan Gay and Quin, Leigh and Joe Rumble, and his beloved animals, dog Happy and horse Foxwood High (Woody). John grew up in Toronto and attended Blythwood School followed by Upper Canada College. He graduated from Engineering at University of Toronto in 1957 where he was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Through the 1950s John represented Canada as a member of the Canadian Equestrian team. The highlight of John's riding career was winning Canada's first ever Olympic medal in an equestrian event in 1956: a bronze medal in Three Day Event awarded to the Canadian team comprised of John and lifelong friends Jim Elder and the late Brian Herbinson. John maintained a lifelong passion for the development of Canadian riders and horses and was the proud sponsor of the Governor General's Cup for the best Canadian-bred three year old horse at the Royal Winter Fair for many years. Professionally, John enjoyed a career in heavy equipment sales. In the 1980s he built a successful mining equipment business on the west coast - Transwest Dynequip. The sale of Transwest in the early 1990s enabled John to live out his dream on his beloved Foxwood Hill surrounded by horses and the rolling hills of King Township. The Rumbles would like to express their gratitude to Lindsay Colbourne and Blair Clack for their patience and dedication to both John and Foxwood Hill over many years and also to Selena O'Hanlon, whose efforts training and riding Woody enabled John to pursue his passion for eventing at the highest levels through to the end of his life. John's family would also like to thank the dedicated and caring staff of the palliative care ward at Southlake Hospital for their kindness towards John in his final days. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville). A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society will be grateful to receive charitable gifts in John's memory. Condolences may be forwarded through
