RUMPEL, John Walter 1916-2008
of Waterloo, passed away peacefully at his beloved cottage on Penetang Bay on Saturday, September 20, 2008 in his 93 rd. year. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Margaret Burke. Dear father of David and his wife Renie. Cherished grandfather of Michael (Kari), Christopher (Angela) and Katharine Gamble (Jeremy). John was the 3rd. generation to run a very successful textile manufacturing business, the Rumpel Felt Co. of Kitchener, Ontario. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather George Rumpel who had emigrated from Germany in 1870 and set up the company that has continued to the present. John's passion was working at the Rumpel Felt Co. and he continued to go into the office daily until last Friday. Over the years he had been active in a number of community organizations, and supported many worthwhile causes. The Rumpel family had been dedicated to cottaging on Georgian Bay since the 1880's, at their family cottage. The family will receive friends at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre 621 King Street West, Kitchener on Friday, September 26, 2008 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. for a commemorative get together with his family and friends. Please bring your stories and share your memories of John. Cremation has taken place. Interment at St. James on the Lines cemetery at a later date.
