SHEEHY, Fr. John, C.S.Sp.
At House of Providence where he lived for the last few years. Deeply regretted and fondly remembered by his Spirtan confreres. Born in Slnibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland, Fr. Sheehy became a Spirtan in 1938 and was ordained priest in 1945. He lived and worked as a missionary in Eastern Nigeria from 1946-1967, before coming to Toronto in 1971. He was assistant Pastor (1971-1974) and Pastor (1977-1978) in St. Joseph's Parish, Port Elgin, and Chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, from 1974-1977 and again in 1978-1994. In 1996 he retired to Port Elgin, then to Laval House, Toronto, and finally to the House of Providence. Lovingly remembered by his sister, Sister Marie Therese in St. Albans, Herth, England, his niece Terry in Co. Dublin, Ireland, and the many people who benefited from from his gentle, caring presence over the years. Resting at Laval Manor (Victoria Park south Kingston Road), from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Wake Service at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be concelebrated on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Highland Creek (#2 Highway and Morrish Road). Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
