John SHORTLY Obituary
JOHN LAVELLE SHORTLY
Died peacefully surrounded by his family in Sarasota, Florida in his 89th year on December 7, 2016.
John was born and raised in Toronto, by his loving parents, Eileen and Dean Shortly. He attended St. Andrew's College then Trinity College at U of T. He began his career as a Chartered Accountant and spent 40 years working in Toronto and Vancouver in the brokerage and ultimately the venture capital business. At 60, John and his beloved wife, Sheila retired to Florida. The years were good to them with many new passions, lots of travel, and wonderful new friendships.
Shorty was a natural athlete, good at everything, with a love for golf, tennis, music, gin and backgammon, all of which he pursued well into retirement.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sheila Shortly (née Smith); his three children, Tim (Tara), Ian (Violet), and Susan (Peter Sainsbury); as well as eight grandchildren who all loved their 'Bopa'.
There will be a private family celebration of life held at a later date.
For all of you who knew John, lucky for you, and luckier still for us. Rest in peace.
