JOHN ANGUS MACKINNON SLATTERY

JOHN ANGUS MACKINNON SLATTERY obituary

JOHN SLATTERY Obituary

(October 5, 1957 - November 19, 2025) It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Angus MacKinnon Slattery, who passed away peacefully, in his beautiful garden with his beloved wife and daughters. John was an exceptional athlete, but an even better teammate. He measured a good game not by the score, but by how well he contributed to the team. John was also a natural storyteller, and was much admired for his intelligence and his astonishing lack of musical ability. Before he passed, John expressed immense gratitude to his wife, Jill, his partner in life and laughter, whose courage gave him great strength, especially in the end. He leaves behind his "girls," Emma and Katherine, who will remember the wisdom he shared and jokes he made - and believe it or not, there were a couple of good ones. John will be greatly missed by his sisters, Sandy (Peter), Gayle (Bob) and Ann (Joe); sisters-in-law, Joy and Ann (Greg); and loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Keltie; father, Denis; and brother, Jim. John leaves behind the legacy of kindness, modesty and dignity belonging to a true gentleman. He will be remembered for the quality of his friendship, the gentleness of his spirit, and the heartiness of his laugh. Thank you to those who made his life richer, and who will help us keep his memory alive. And to John, we say: see you later, my friend. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Jill, Emma, and Katherine,

We are deeply saddened to hear of John´s passing. So many happy memories as neighbours on Lake Kawagama over the past 30 years! Commiseration with John about the endless cottage work. Paddle boards, kayaks, and rescue missions - John was good at all three. Tea parties and dress up for Emma, Katherine, and Laura. Cocktails and dinners on the dock, followed by endless family game nights full of laughter.

John, you will live on in our memory. We´re so glad the three of you could be with him at the end. And we look forward to seeing you next summer.

I have yet to meet a more genuine and decent person than John. A gentleman to the core. I will miss his sharp and energetic intellect, his quick wit and charming demeanour. At Appleby we all loved to go and see the Slattery brothers face off against the other school. They dug so deep. They hit so hard. I send my love to the family. I am thinking of them all at this difficult time.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the Slattery family and friends on the tragic passing of John. It was far too soon. I attended Appleby at the same time as John. I have nothing but positive recollections of an exceptional guy. Peace be with you John.

I have known John since we were lads in elementary school at Appleby. He was one of my besties, and I´ve had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him and being his dentist for the last 25 years. He will be sorely missed.

Jill, Emma and Katherine, I was very sad to hear of John´s passing. I worked with John on and off between 2002 and 2023. He was indeed a gentleman with such a ready smile, an easy going manner that always put me at ease when we met for business meetings, and so young at heart. I am a rugby aficionado and was mightily impressed when John told me he played for Canada versus Wales, but only lasted 5 minutes as he got knocked out! I believe he played on the wing so he must have been very speedy. You will of course miss him an awful lot and I send you my deepest condolences. Tim
