Joseph Mik Obituary

Dec 31, 1939 – Aug 17, 2025 Joseph died at 23:30 at St. Joseph Medical Center. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis; son, Joseph; daughter, Helene; four grandchildren, Isabelle, Jasmine, Anton, and Victoria; as well as his nephews, Eric and Chris; and niece, Mary. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Vesta Evangeline (Eva), in 2017; and his brother, Francis (Frank), in 2021. Born in Toronto to Polish immigrants, Joseph grew up in a working-class neighbourhood. He shone at Saint Michael's College School and went on to complete a BA and MA at the University of Toronto. After military service with Queen's Own Riffles, where he was promoted to Captain, he turned to the law, graduating first from Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.B.) and then, on full scholarship, from the University of California's Berkeley School of Law (LL.M.). He returned to Toronto, joining Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP, his sole employer, eventually being made a partner of the firm. He set great store on education, and vacationed widely in Europe and Asia. Weekends were spent with family at a cottage in Grey County. He loved classical music and opera. He attended St. Patrick's Church in Dundalk, Ontario. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (3055 Bloor St. W., Toronto, one block west of Royal York Rd.) on Monday, August 25th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery (Royal York Rd. and Lawrence Ave.).
