Moreau, Joseph Paul Dr. Joseph Paul Moreau died
peacefully at his home in Edmonton
on March 23, 2015 at the age of
95.Joseph is survived by his wife of
67 years, Marie, his eight children,
Marc (Barbara), Paul (Cathy), John,
Anne, Jeanne (Rick), Mary (Peter),
Ellen (Ryan) and Joseph (Trudy), his
25 grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren.
Joseph was born in 1920 in Hoey,
Saskatchewan, attended the Collège
des Jésuites in Edmonton and
received his Bachelor of Arts degree
from l'Université Laval. He went on
to obtain his medical degree from
the University of Alberta in 1944
During World War II, he served as a
medical doctor in the Canadian
armed forces.
Joseph obtained his Fellowship in
Orthopedics in 1949 and joined the
medical staff of the Edmonton
General Hospital. He became a
member of the American College of
Orthopedic Surgeons in 1956 and
the Vice-President of the Canadian
Orthopedic Association in 1972. He
was the head of the orthopedic
service at the General Hospital for
over 40 years. Joseph was one of
the first surgeons to bring total hip
replacement surgery to Alberta.
Joseph served as a trustee of the
Edmonton Separate School Board
from 1957 to 1963. He was very
active in the Franco-Albertan
community and was the President of
the Association canadienne-française
de l'Alberta in 1966. He was
honoured by the recognition he
received on the opening of École
Joseph Moreau in southeast
Edmonton in September 2009, a
Catholic francophone school for
students from Grades 7 through 9.
A Prayer Vigil will be held on Friday,
March 27, 2015, at 7:15 p.m. at
Connelly McKinley Funeral Home,
10011 - 114 St, Edmonton. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at
L'Église Saint-Joachim, 9924-110
Street, Edmonton, on Saturday,
March 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.

memory of Joseph may be made to
