(1944 – 2025). It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph "Joe" Stovel in his 81st year on August 23, 2025. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Susan (Ross) Stovel, of 56 years. Also, by his brother, David Stovel (Cathy), Toronto; brother-in-law, Andrew Ross (Lorraine), Toronto; and his stepmother, Janet Stovel, Toronto. Missed by his nephews, Craig Stovel (Rebecca), Toronto, Cameron Ross, Toronto; and his niece, Suzanne (Stovel) Hins (Mike), Mt. Tremblant, PQ. He is also survived by four great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Betsy (MacDonald) and Joseph Stovel. Also, by his brother, Robert (Rob) Stovel; and his stepmother, Hope Stovel. Joe was born in Pembroke, Ontario, while his father was stationed at CFB Petawawa during WWII. They moved to Noranda, PQ, afterwards, where his father (a mining engineer) was appointed President of Kerr Addison Mine. Joe attended Bishop's College School in Lennoxville, PQ, for Grades 5–12. He graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University (Laurier) with an Honours B.A. in French. He taught at Laurentian High School in Ottawa for a number of years and later joined the Federal Government at Energy Mines and Resources in Finance, from which he retired. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11th, from 2–5 p.m. at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home, 1200 Ogilvie Rd. (at Aviation Parkway), Ottawa. The funeral will be on Friday, September 12th, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Navan, Ontario, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, 1171 Smith Rd., Navan, Ontario K4B 1N7 or the Ottawa Humane Society
