February 20, 1936 – August 13, 2025 Joyce, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side. Predeceased and adored by her husband of 54 years, Allan, Joyce was the seventh of eight children born to Cyril and Greta Paterson. She is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Nancy) and Jeffrey (Beth); and four granddaughters, Rebecca (Steven), Sarah (Connor), Juliet, and Margot. Born and raised in New Brunswick, she spent her childhood in Canaan Forks, then Havelock, before the family settled in Sackville for her teenage and early adult years. She attended Mount Allison Academy, earning a diploma in Stenography and Secretarial Studies. Job opportunities took her to Saint John, where she worked as a legal secretary in one of New Brunswick's most prominent law firms. Joyce enjoyed her time in the "Loyalist City," making new friendships and relishing its proximity to Saint Andrews By-the-Sea, where summer weekends often took her to the shores of Katy's Cove. Joyce then moved to Toronto, accepting a job with Trans-Canada Air Lines (Air Canada), where she met the love of her life, Allan Histed. After the birth of their two sons, Allan accepted a new role with Air Canada that brought the family to Montreal, where they raised their two boys on the West Island. Upon retirement, Allan and Joyce returned to Ontario, relocating to Oakville. Despite the better part of her years in the Toronto and Montreal areas, Joyce remained a proud Maritimer. She was a lifelong learner who re-entered the workforce after raising her two boys and adapted her skillset to a new digital reality, supporting the executive ranks at Canada Systems Group, one of the first data processing service bureaus in Canada and the largest at the time. Joyce had style, an innate fashion sense, never at a loss to put together the perfect outfit, accessories and all. She combined that aesthetic sensibility and passion for learning, enrolling in Sheridan College's Interior Design program, which she completed with flying colours. Despite her own accomplishments, Joyce's humility meant she was always quick to praise the achievements of others in her family ahead of her own. She had a genuine gift for hospitality; her "love language" on full display with an exquisite homecooked meal, family and friends gathered around the table. Her knack for baking meant every meal was capped with a delectable dessert, her apple pie legendary. Her generosity of spirit extended beyond the kitchen table to community service, recognized in 2001 with an Ontario Volunteer Award. Joyce was active in her church, serving on the Altar Guild of Saint Jude's Anglican, Oakville. Joyce brought joy to others, and will be fondly remembered for her warmth, kindness, caring, and love of laughter. The Histed family thanks Churchill Place for the community and care they provided to Joyce these past years. Visitation Thursday, August 28th, 4:00–8:00 p.m., at Glen Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ON L6H 7A8. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held Friday, August 29th, 11:00 a.m., at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville, ON L6J 1C5. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or St. Jude's Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be sent to
