JUDITH PROBST Obituary

(July 20, 1941 - November 16, 2025) Judith passed peacefully in palliative care at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. Judy was born in Toronto, where she attended St. Clement's School and New Toronto Collegiate. She excelled in her studies and was accelerated three grades. Judy received a B.A Honours in History and French (University of Toronto) and a Masters of Education from OISE. She married Louis Ernest Probst in 1962 and had four children: Louis, Steven, Nicholas and Christine. Judy worked as a high school teacher at Martingrove Collegiate in Etobicoke and Applewood Heights Secondary School in Peel, teaching French, History and Law. She was a passionate and vivacious force in the classroom, loved her job and cared deeply about her students. After retirement, Judy and Lou left Toronto to live at their expansive farm in Kirkfield, Ontario. As committed environmentalists, Judy and Lou were focused on the conservation of the ecologically rare alvar of the Carden Plain and their defence of endangered species. They worked with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, served on numerous committees and boards, and received awards for their contributions. Judy and Lou were dedicated partners and world travellers, visiting all seven continents together. Judy was an articulate, out-spoken and passionate woman who cared deeply about her family and friends. She is remembered lovingly by her children, Louis (Katherine) Steven (Jennifer), Christine (Andrew) and Nicholas (Yvonne), and eight grandchildren.

Judy and I taught a law course at Applewood Secondary School in Mississauga. We collaborated on making the course relevant and interesting to senior students. Judy had a genius in engaging students in learning and I was happy to share her techniques with mine. I lost touch when she retired and moved to her farm, and missed her collegiality.
She was a positive force.

Judy was a unique and cherished friend, whose memory is cherished, despite not seeing her for many years because I live in the UK.
