KARL ELLINGER January 29, 1931 - June 26, 2023 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Karl Ellinger at home in Meaford, Ontario. Karl is survived by his wife, Chris Hand-Ellinger; and his sons, Michael and Mark (Nancy Long); and grandchildren, Marlena and Travis. Also missed by Chris's children, Susan Forsythe, Richard Forsythe (Karen Wash), Gillian Santangeli (Dave Santangeli), Sylvie Hand (Angus Glennie), Kate Hand (Jeff Lennon); and her six grandchildren, (Michael, William and Ben Santangeli, John Glennie, Nora and Taya Hand-Lennon). Born in Landshut, Bavaria, Karl immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s. He moved to the Collingwood area a decade later, building one of the early chalets at the base of Alpine Ski Club where he and his family loved to ski and opened The Shoppe Antiques and Things in Craigleith. Never afraid to speak his mind, those who really got to know Karl, got to know an interesting, curious, caring and remarkably modern man who really embraced life and was incredibly thankful for the opportunities he had during his life in Canada. A family gathering will take place in Meaford this summer.
