1940 - 2023

KARL ALLEYNE MASSIAH 1940-2023 Died peacefully at Humber River Hospital on June 19, 2023, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Loving husband of 57 years to Pamela (DaCamara); devoted father to Melanie (Eric) and Roberta; proud grandfather (a.k.a. Grumpy) to Naomi, Colin, Sophia, and Ernie. He leaves behind his sister Patricia (Andrew) and brother Robert (Yvette) as well as many dear nieces and nephews. Born in Barbados he attended the Lodge School and went on to study medicine at University College of the West Indies where he graduated with honours in 1965. His postgraduate studies were done in Toronto in Orthopaedics and he became the first Chief of Orthopaedics at the newly established Etobicoke General Hospital. There he had a successful career and also served as President of the Medical Staff Association. He was instrumental in founding the UWI Medical Alumni Association (UWIMAA) and worked tirelessly on its behalf. He retired in 2005 and enjoyed working in the garden with his roses, bird carving, and travel adventures around the world. His last trip was to his beloved Barbados in 2020, returning just in time to avoid COVID. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27th from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday, July 28th from 10 a.m. until the Celebration of Karl's Life at 11 a.m. at the Simple Alternative Funeral Centre Mississauga (1535 South Gateway Rd., Mississauga 905-602-1580). Reception to immediately follow. Cremation has taken place.
