A gentle, gracious lady, and cherished wife of the late Edward (Paddy) Nolan, on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. Celebrating her long and wonderful life are her son John, his wife Maureen (Montemuro) and their daughters Kathleen and Patricia; her son Dermot, his wife Tamara (Paikin) and their children Nora (Andrew Hammond), Edward, Kennedy and Rachel; and her daughter Mary (Tony Kilgannon) and daughters Louise and Grace Batten. Also, her dear, dear sister Constance McLean, nephews Donald, James, Robert and Ian McLean, niece Mary Barbara Cosgriffe and their families; her cousin Peggy Whyte and dear friend Jackie Schneider and their families; the Nolan and Fitzgerald families in Ireland; and her many treasured friends. She was the daughter of Mary Ann (O'Brien) and John J. Hunt, K.C. and widow of RCAF pilot Walter McManus (killed in action, 1941). She was a graduate of Loretto Academy. McMaster University and the Ontario College of Education. She was a dedicated high school teacher and the first woman elected to the Hamilton Catholic school board where she served as trustee for 20 years. In 1988, she received the Award of Merit from the Ontario Separate School Trustees' Association for outstanding service to Catholic education. She was a proud Hamiltonian whose life reflected her commitment to her family, faith and community and her abiding belief that 'of those to whom much is given, much is expected.' Funeral mass at St. Charles Garnier church, 129 Hughson St. South, on Monday, January 22, at 11 a.m.; burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 7 East Ave. South, Hamilton, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Donations to the Kathleen C.
