Kathryn Marie Barbara, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Born in Pembroke, Ontario, Marie carried the warmth, resilience, and charm of her hometown throughout her life. She is survived by her beloved husband, Lloyd Barbara, her high school sweetheart from Iona Academy in St. Raphaels, Ontario. Together, they shared a partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. A devoted mother and cherished family member, Marie is lovingly remembered by her son, Matthew; her stepdaughter, Stephanie (Jonathan); and her stepson, Rob (Robin). Her grandchildren - Lauren, Elizabeth, Sam, Zac, Carmen, and Charlie - brought immeasurable joy to her life, and she delighted in every moment spent with them. Marie's career as a teacher was marked by passion, dedication, and care. She spent many years inspiring primarily Grade 5 students, igniting a love of learning in countless young minds. In her 20s, Marie's adventurous spirit took her to Africa, where she taught English and embraced new cultures, leaving a lasting impression on the students and communities she served. Her love of travel remained a defining part of her life, and she cherished the many journeys she took with family and friends. Together with Lloyd, Marie was a generous philanthropist, supporting causes close to their hearts, including St. Michael's Hospital, Dignitas International, and several food banks in Toronto and Halifax. Their compassion and commitment to helping others reflected the values Marie held throughout her life. Beyond her accomplishments, Marie was known for her vibrant personality. She loved people, possessed an infectious laugh, and had a playful appreciation for mischievous behavior that could light up any room. Her warmth, humor, and zest for life left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Sunnybrook Hospital for their exceptional care. A service will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) , Toronto, on Sunday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
